Expanded Metal Terminology

Style Designation

Expanded metal products are defined by a series of numbers which identify a given style. The first number is the nominal diamond dimension Long Way of design (LWD) which is determining our Product code. ex. EM 30 as per the illustration on the left.

Long Way Mesh (LWM)

The distance from a point on a knuckle to a corresponding point on the following knuckle measured across the long way.

Short Way Mesh (SWM)

The Distance from a point on a knuckle to a corresponding point on the following knuckle measured across the short way.

Strand Thickness (ST)

In raised mesh, it is the thickness of the base metal. In flattened, it is the overall thickness of the finished sheet.

Strand Width (SW)

Amont of material fed into the press to produce one strand.
